Spiritual Truth for Living:
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal. ~Isaiah 26:3
Writing this post started out like this: Psalm 34:18, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Scratch that! Psalm 56:8, “You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You keep track…” Noooo, not that one!
Joel 2:19, “The LORD replied to them: ‘I am sending you grain, new wine and olive oil, enough to satisfy you fully…'” That’s what I am talking about God. Can you send some of that my way?! I need all the chocolate and coffee as well if I’m going to make it through this stressful day!
And why is this day so stressful as opposed to any other? PMS my friends! More scientifically known as Pre-Menstrual Syndrome. That lovely time of the month just before the curse of all womankind, when hormones can’t make up thier mind on anything! Am I happy, sad, mad, hungry?
“Did she just say PMS?”
“YES, you heard me.”
It’s no secret, as it is estimated Three in every Four women will experience some type of PMS in thier lifetime, in varying degrees. For those who don’t know what I am talking about, PMS can include a range of symptoms including but not limited to: fatigue, bloating, mood swings, cravings sleep disturbances and acne!
Thanks Eve! When God put a curse on womankind He wasn’t joking (See Genesis Chapter 3). One day you are strutting in skinny jeans feeling like a boss, and the next you are eating a box of chocolates in your sweats and crying during Disney movies.
I know I can turn into Elsa the Ice Queen overnight at the slightest infraction. “The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside. Couldn’t keep it in heaven knows I’ve tried.” (Singing)
If you are like me and you experience PMS, you might have also tried many different methods to stifle the Ice Queen and keep her from setting off an eternal winter.
But where is God during PMS? I like to think I have a great relationship with God, but talking to Him about PMS is usually the LAST thing on my mind when I randomly burst into tears because the Fruit Loops are gone. I am sure He has much bigger problems to solve.
It’s much easier to go to man made items first! PMS vitamins, checking my phone 100 times for a text..
Coffee sweatpants, wine, chocolate, pizza and scrolling through Pinterest to read other womans PMS stories.
And after all else fails, I remember God really does care about all the tiny details of my life, including the empty box of Fruit Loops! And he wants to be that that boyfriend who stops by with your favorite candy, ready to binge watch Disney, and hold you hand through the roller coaster of emotions.
If you didn’t catch my post last week describing the attributes of our heavenly Father, it is worth reading! As I sometimes need a reminder that God is just as near on the rainy and stormy days as He is during the sunshine.
And he wants us to come to Him with everything. Even PMS. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:7 to Cast your Cares on Him for he Cares for You. So next time you feel the urge to throw ice crystals at anyone who crosses your path during the whirlwind, try letting Him into the soup of emotions.
We can trust in His promise not to ever leave our side, Deuteronomy 31:6 tells us “…for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Know that you are not alone and you don’t have to be the Queen of Isolation through the PMS storm.
PRAY With Me Today:
LORD, help me to trust that You are always by my side, even when my emotions are difficult and confusing. Help me to resist negative thoughts and instead fill my mind with thoughts that are true, noble, just, pure, and lovely. Fill me with Your Spirit of Truth, so I can recognize lies from the enemy, and renounce those lies for the Truth of Your Word.
