I’m down in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, a huge Carnival celebration that starts on, or after Three Kings day, and culminates the day before Ash Wednesday.
The big celebration on Fat Tuesday involves epic parades with lavish floats, festive band music, street vendors, dancing, eating, and celebrating with friends. The purpose of this festival, is to enjoy one last day of indulging in your favorite foods before giving them up during a season of lent.
Now I’m sure you’re wondering, how would you dress for a Mardi Gras celebration? I like to follow the rule of 3 C’s when picking out my outfit for Mardi Gras.
CLIMATE. COMFORT. COLORS.
CLIMATE. Mardi Gras is celebrated in many different countries and cities around the world, therefore, the climate will be different depending on your city! Typically in St Louis, the temperature during Mardi Gras is at, or sometimes below freezing and you will be looking for your warmest parka, and winter accessories.
However, in New Orleans, average temperatures are usually in the 70’s and a tee shirt with jean’s or shorts would be more appropriate!
COMFORT. If you plan on spending the day on a parade route you will probably be on your feet a good portion of the day. Choose your most comfortable walking shoes!
COLORS. The 3 colors that define Mardi Gras are purple, green, and yellow. If you want to dress for the event, choose at least 1, if not 2, of these 3 colors to incorporate into your outfit of the day.
Looking forward to the celebration!!
